A raging wildfire fanned by high winds tore across the wealthy Los Angeles neighbourhood of Pacific Palisades on Tuesday, burning homes and prompting the city to issue evacuation orders.
More than 770 acres were burning in hills around the Palisades, a coastal community north of Santa Monica, the Los Angeles Fire Department said.
The bucolic area is home to Hollywood executives and producers, with winding roads through canyons that quickly became gridlocked with evacuating residents.
Winds have reached 70 miles per hour and are expected to strengthen into Wednesday, the national weather service said. The winds have accelerated the fire’s spread as the region suffers from a particularly dry stretch.
